Janelle MacFarlane

CONTEMPORARY | MODERN | TAP | JAZZ | LYRICAL | STAGE

Janelle trained at Dance Co from age three to eighteen, and cannot imagine having grown up anywhere else. As a member of Dance Co’s Professional Half-Day Program throughout high school, Janelle had the opportunity to train extensively in all different styles of dance, including ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, musical theatre, and acro. Janelle has received many scholarships, judge’s choice awards, and high scores at competition, for her tap solos especially. She was chosen as the Tap representative from Victoria DanceWorks at the Performing Arts BC Provincial Festival in 2015 and 2016. In 2015, she received honourable mention at the Performing Arts Festival for “Outstanding Rhythm.” In 2016, she won the Rod Schultz Memorial Challenge Trophy for Highest Mark in Solo Tap at the Surrey Festival of Dance. Janelle developed a love for choreographing pieces at quite a young age, and won a Promising Ballet Choreographer Award from Surrey Festival of Dance at age 16. Janelle has also had the chance to travel to Las Vegas to compete at the Dance Awards, and was thrilled to take classes from many talented and well-known choreographers. Janelle has travelled to New York City twice to attend the Tap City Tap Dance Festival, and train with many inspiring tappers such as Michelle Dorrance, Josette Wiggan-Freund and Melinda Sullivan. Janelle is thrilled to be a part of the Dance Co faculty, and to share her love of dance with her students. She plans to continue her dance training both locally and around the world in order to provide the best training for her students.
