Shannon May

CONTEMPORARY | BALLET | JAZZ | TAP | ACRO

Shannon May is a professional dance artist from the small town of Fort St. John, BC, where she started dancing at the age of 4.  Upon graduating high school Shannon moved to Vancouver to complete the Arts Umbrella graduate program.  After this she moved to the Netherlands to work with the Dance in Art Junior Company under the direction of Martine van Santen and Rianne Keyzer.  In 2016 Shannon joined Mystic Ballet, a contemporary dance company in Connecticut and has danced and performed for the company for the past two years.

 

Some highlights of Shannon’s career include performing Rianne Keyzer’s Well Tempered in Haarlem, NL, performing as Ursula in Mystic Ballet’s contemporary take on The Little Mermaid, performing as a soloist in Mystic Ballet’s performances of Grab and Splash and choreographing two pieces on Mystic Ballet for their end of season performance.

Shannon has recently moved back to Vancouver where she works as a freelance dancer, teacher and co-founder of the dance collective “Chalk” with Lauren Yeung.  She has experience teaching contemporary, jazz, ballet, tap and acro and has taught at many workshops and intensives including Spotlight Dance Centre’s and Studio 2 Stage’s summer intensives and hosting a contemporary workshop for the merited participants at Performing Arts BC provincial festival 2019.
