Competitive 2011 - 2012

These classes are designed for the more serious dance student. The competitive Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap classes are based on two to three classes a week per discipline. Students prepare for competitions in choreography classes and develop their skills in technique classes. All competitive students are required to study competitive ballet in addition to their other classes (with the exception of tap and hip hop). Students will compete in dance festivals in the Spring in addition to the year-end recital May 25th, 26th & 27th, 2012.

Company and Intensive

Dance Co's Company and Intensive classes provide and excellent base for our most serious and gifted students. Company and Intensive members take eight to sixteen classes a week (depending on level) and members are required to make a serious commitment to the company and its members. Additional Acro and Stretch and Strength conditioning and Pointe classes will be offered to Company and Intensive dancers on a supplementary basis where appropriate. Company members attend all classes together to create a team spirit, which is integral to their ability to perform and excel as dancers. Company and Intensive members will compete provincially at three festivals that run in March, April and May. They will perform at Dance Co's year end recital May 25th, 26th & 27th, 2012, and may be eligible to present festival winning routines at "Showcase 2012" on May 26th. Dancers interested in auditioning must have a minimum of three years experience, a distinct natural ability and be willing to push themselves to be the best dancer they can be. To apply, please send in a video tape showing barre work, centre exercises, flexibility and a lyrical and jazz combination. To audition in person, please register in one of the summer schools or weekly classes for evaluation. Be sure to note your audition request on the registration form. Certain expectations will be expected from the dancers. Please see the Company/Competitive Dance Program Policy Contract for further details.

Pro'fessional Half-day Training Program - Intermediate & Senior

The most intense training program for the most serious dance students; based on physical talent, work ethic and performance ability. For grade 8-12 students, who wish to pursue a career in dance, while still attaining their academic goals. This program combines with a half-day secondary school program; either through SPARTS at Magee Secondary School or with permission from the dancers home school (the home school must have a non rotating block schedule). This program allows dancers to allocate additional hours during the school day to dance and still meet their academic requirements.

Classes begin mid-day several days a week and are finished by early evening most days. Dancers must have a tremendous desire to excel. Dancers will train in all disciplines, study all aspects of Dance, including anatomy, bodywork, choreography and history of dance. Additionally, these dancers will participate in the teacher-training program. Pro' Half day dances will perform, train, and compete with their Company and Intensive counterparts for choreography. Core competing routines will be done in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, and Contemporary dance, with optional additions of Tap, Hip Hop and Acro.

This intense and demanding program requires full commitment from the students and their families. All classes demand high levels of physical strength, technique and discipline. The Pro' Half Day Program is designed to provide the more focused and dedicated student with quality training in preparation for a career within dance; and most importantly within the most nurturing and positive environment possible.

Applications for this program can begin as early as January. For more details on this program and requirements please contact the Dance Co office.

Dance Co. presents the Pre-Show "SNEAK PEEK"

Once again, a Pre-Show will be held on February 25th, 2012. ALL Company, Intensive, and Competitive group and solo/duo/trio dance routines will be participating in this event. (This is the ONLY event when all solo/duo/trio routines will be performed.)

These special shows are a great opportunity for the dancers to perform their routines on stage for an audience prior to their competitions. It will allow time to get feedback from the performance and go back to the classroom to make any final changes and corrections prior to performing at the dance competitions. We think that this opportunity will be of great benefit for the dancers and lots of fun too!!

ALL COMPANY, INTENSIVE AND COMPETITIVE DANCERS ARE EXPECTED TO BE IN ATTENDANCE AT THIS EVENT.
